About Fact-Up
Where quirky science meets curious minds
Welcome to Fact-Up, the online home of science that makes you go "wait... what?"
I'm the voice behind this blog — a science enthusiast in my mid-twenties whose brain has somehow become a sponge for every oddball fact, curious finding, and accidental discovery science has ever churned out. Raised on a steady diet of documentaries, podcast episodes, and articles (the weirder, the better), I've always found myself blurting out strange facts in conversations — usually to a mix of amusement, disbelief, and "how do you even know that?"
The name Fact-Up is more than a pun. It plays on that moment when someone hears how Velcro was inspired by burrs stuck to a dog's fur, or that wombat poop is cube-shaped — and they can’t help but exclaim, "That’s... fact-up!" It’s that delightful dissonance between science’s serious reputation and its often serendipitous, hilarious, or outright bizarre discoveries. (Yes, I am obsessed with the Ig Nobel Prizes.)
What you'll find here
This blog is a love letter to the strange and wonderful world of science:
-
Quirky facts with real scientific roots
-
Stories of accidental breakthroughs that changed the world
-
Human moments behind discoveries — from eccentric scientists to unexpected lab mishaps
-
A touch of humour, a dose of curiosity, and hopefully, a spark of inspiration
Think of it as your weekly scroll-through of conversation-starting content. Whether you're into the science of flatulence, the physics behind beer foam, or the psychology of why goats have rectangular pupils — you're in the right place.
Who am I?
I’m just one person running this blog — a generalist by nature with a background in science, an appetite for wonder, and an urge to tell people weird things they didn’t ask to know. My goal? To turn the obscure and overlooked into something memorable, shareable, and yes — maybe even useful at a dinner party.
And if you're reading this and nodding along, maybe even giggling a little? Welcome. You're one of us.
Subscribe, share, spew forth
If you like what you see here, subscribe to the newsletter — a weekly roundup of new posts, delightful distractions, and factoids designed to be shared (or inflicted) on friends and coworkers alike. Because science doesn’t have to be dry. Sometimes it’s messy, hilarious, awe-inspiring — and always worth spreading.
Thanks for being here,
